Late at Night, Property Management Staff and the Neighbor Woke Up and Saved the Resident from a Fire Caused by Mosquito Coil and Cardboard
One early morning at 4:24, in Hangzhou Mingxu Jinghuili, a smoke alarm immediately caught the attention of Zhou Xiaofeng, the on-duty staff at the fire control room, who promptly asked the patroller Wang Hongjun to check the situation. Wang Hongjun soon arrived at the scene and knocked on the door, however, no one answered the door. He carefully inspected the surroundings and did detect a faint smell of smoke from indoors. So, he continued knocking and called the foreman Li Ke for assistance.
The constant knocking didn’t wake up the resident in the house but did startle the next-door neighbor. Fortunately, the neighbor knew the phone number of the resident in danger and kept calling while the property management staff kept knocking. At 4:32, they finally woke the resident up.
When the door opened, the property management staff instantly noticed the cardboard burning amidst thick smoke. Without a second thought, they quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and fetched water from the resident’s home to put out the fire together. Later, they dragged the residual cardboard and debris outside to the corridor for further disposal, ensuring that everything was completely extinguished.
But what exactly caused the cardboard to burn in the middle of the night? After inquiring of the resident, it turned out that it was actually the mosquito coil placed in the living room that ignited the cardboard. The sudden fire incident left the resident feeling anxious and upset, and the foreman Li Ke consoled him patiently.
To avoid the reoccurrence of such incidents, the foreman Li Ke educated the resident on fire safety and emphasized that lit mosquito coils should never be placed on or near cardboard or other flammable materials. Fire safety must never be taken lightly.
Thanks to the highly responsible property management staff and their timely and effective handling of the initial fire, no injuries or greater property damage were caused this time. The resident was very grateful for property management staff’s timely intervention and presented them with a silk banner to express his gratitude.
The service center of Mingxu Jinghuili also took this occasion to promote fire safety knowledge among residents of all units to enhance their fire awareness and will soon organize fire safety training sessions for residents. As summer marks the peak period for electricity usage, inspecting circuits and equipment should be our first step to ensure electricity safety this summer.
