“Lu, I need your help. Yesterday I added a bank officer as a WeChat contact and was told that my card was overdrawn. Is it true?” asked a very anxious proprietor who found Lu Tianjiao, a steward of Yupinwan in Hangzhou Zhangjiaba Community, for help on September 16th.
According to the elderly female proprietor, on the evening of September 15th, a person claiming to be an officer from Beijing Bank called and told her that she overdrew her card by 10,000 yuan, and even sent her ID card information to her WeChat for verification. Having never encountered such a thing before, the proprietor took it to be true and sent her personal information such as home address to the officer, hoping that the officer could help solve the problem.
With all family members in Shanghai, the elderly proprietor was at home alone and was too worried to fall asleep the whole night. Steward Lu comforted the proprietor and checked the call history, and confirmed that it was a telecom fraud.
After figuring out the situation, Lu asked and was relieved to know that the proprietor hadn’t transferred the money to that caller. To ease the proprietor’s anxiety, Lu immediately called the community to report the case and accompanied the proprietor to the community police office.
The proprietor was very excited then. But the persuasion of police officers and the community grid manager, the proprietor realized that it was a telecom fraud and deleted the WeChat account of that caller immediately. There, police officers carefully and patiently explained fraud cases and anti-fraud knowledge to the proprietor.
The police office of Zhangjiaba Community recognized and praised for the careful and considerate work style of the Binjiang Property’s service center in Yupinwan and the strong anti-fraud awareness of Lu Tianjiao, and appealed to other residential quarters to learn from this case and carry out anti-fraud work earnestly to protect the property of the people.
