In early summer, the pomegranate blossoms suddenly come out and hydrangeas flowers decorate quiet gardens. But the most anticipated thing about summer should be the Dragon Boat Festival when the air is filled with the mouthwatering smell of zongzi. As a traditional festival that has deep cultural connotation and features epidemic prevention, the Dragon Boat Festival, which is on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year, is a special occasion on which Chinese people will make and enjoy zongzi, both classic meat-stuffed zongzi and zongzi of many new flavors, make sachets, and hang Chinese mugwort and Acorus calamus on lintels to repel insects and plagues.

If we go deeper into the cultural meaning of the festival, we can find that, with the original intention of memorizing Qu Yuan, the Dragon Boat Festival has much to do with the feelings to country and family. In the past three years of epidemic control, the frontline medical workers, community staff, property management staff and volunteers have tackled various challenges and built the protection wall against the COVID-19 again and again, which is the perfect embodiment of their patriotism.

Chinese mugwort that every Chinese family needs at the Dragon Boat Festival is a herb of the family of Asteraceae with a strong odor. All parts of Chinese mugwort can be used as an effective medicine and can be made into moxa for moxibustion. As a way to promote traditional culture, the property management staff of Quzhou Moon River packed Chinee mugwort and their love together and sent them to the proprietors.

In Quzhou Wangu Honor Signature, a middle-aged female proprietor shared her zongzi-making experience with property management staff and said, “Traditional local zongzi in Quzhou is normally stuffed with all meat, taro roots and meat, and pickles and meat. When it comes to meat, the streaky pork is the best choice for the glossy appearance and soft and glutinous taste of zongzi.” Service centers of Jinhua Golden Landing, Jinhua Xijiangyue, and Hangzhou Golden Dawn also prepared glutinous rice, pork, and bamboo leaves on the day before Dragon Boat Festival and organized proprietors to make zongzi together. Later the smell of bamboo leaves filled the air of these residential quarters, creating a strong festival atmosphere.

The light scent of bamboo leaves carries deep personal affection. The property management staff of Hangzhou Yujingyuan distributed zongzi and sachets to elderly proprietors who live on their own to show their care. Stewards of Hangzhou Yunheting visited every family and helped hang sachets. They also prepared a Dragon Boat Festival gift pack consisting of Wu Fang Zhai’s zongzi, salted duck eggs, and a sachet for every elderly proprietor as their festival greetings, listened to the voice of elderly proprietors, and helped solve practical problems.

The Children's Day and the Dragon Boat Festival are adjacent this year. Therefore, many projects of Binjiang Property celebrated the two festivals together and organized activities that were fun and full of Dragon Boat Festival elements at the same time. In Hangzhou Yurun Qianchaofu, except for Ultraman painting which was the most popular with children, the activities also included sachet making and dragon boat on land, which are both indispensable in Dragon Boat Festival culture.

The property management staff of Quzhou Chunjiangyue prepared Chinese mugwort, lavender, and some other Chinese herbs for the sachet DIY activity. Sachets carry people’s hope for happiness and health, and children liked a lot the small sachets made by themselves. Children in Yiwu The Top Grade also joined the team of Chinese mugwort sachet making. The sachet is a portable epidemic prevention item in which Chinese mugwort can keep mosquitoes away and put people in a good mood. In Yiwu Xiujin, the property management staff organized an activity to help children identify five kinds of cereal so as to improve children's awareness of saving food.

From the spring to the early summer, Binjiang Property has never relaxed the regular epidemic prevention. After more than two months of continuous fighting against COVID-19, Shanghai lifted restrictions on June 1st, and Shanghai people are finally able to catch the tail of spring that they have been yearning for for a long time. No matter if you're walking out of the residential quarters in the summer breeze and reminiscing about the past under Chinese parasol trees or sharing Dragon Boat Festival experience with neighbors and property management workers in the residential quarters, we'd like to wish you a peaceful and healthy Dragon Boat Festival, which is our biggest and sincerest wish to all Binjiang Property proprieties after all of such hardships.
